Now that was fun… :)

April 29th, 2003

So, for a number of reasons (namely burnout and a desire to help a friend out with a project) I decided to take the day off today… I had intended to sleep in, but my stupid biological clock woke me up at 8AM sharp… which was actually a good thing ’cause about 10 minutes later the repairmen showed up to begin installing my new air conditioning unit (YAY!)….

So, I spent the rest of the day making numerous trips about town… mostly to help out Shane with the Brown College showing of The Matrix. I think in total I made 3 trips to Heinz Musitronics, 1 trip to Radio Shack, 1 trip to the Salvation Army, and 1 trip to Bodo’s…

But, I have to say all the running around was well worth it… the showing went off without a hitch (even with the jury rigged RCA inputs piping an already amped signal into a really expensive “we don’t actually rent these, but we’ll trust you for some unknow reason” mixer)… and DAMN! was that ever awsome… Three amps, 5 speakers and a sub, huge projection screen, and me with a spot on the God couch…. And I got a free steak for helping out… who could ask for anything more…

Anywho, big shout outs to Shane for arranging such a badass event, Kelsey, for keeping me company when the only other two people I knew there were otherwise occupied and I was feeling awkward, and JR for… well… um… for being JR… :)

New Levels of Dorkiness :)

April 27th, 2003

Ok, time for a happy post…

So I found myself this weekend achieving new levels of dorkiness… Specifically, I decided it would be “cool” to modify my old Laser Challenge ™ guns so that they looked a little cooler…

I started the first on Saturday… after stripping out all the electronics, I gave the whole thing 3-4 nice coates of metalic black paint… I then added some nice silver accents for some added “flair”… Sadly, my plans to replace the red LEDs with blue fell through due to some voltage issues, but I think the silver dome looks cool as well… Today, I also added a “silencer” switch… for right now it just cuts off the speaker, but as soon as I find a resistor of appropriate ohmage it will just dampen the sound significantly…

Here’s a pic: Black Laser Challenge Gun

Today, I also decided to take the guts of my other Laser Challenge gun and mod it into an Star Wars, Han Solo blaster… It actually ended up being much easier than I was expecting… the blaster had a built in trigger switch, battery compartment, and speaker, so it was just a matter of resoldering some leads to get that working… adding in the on/off, reset, and arm switches was a little more difficult, but some drilling and creative melting took care of that… The only problem was the emitter and lens assembly… that wouldn’t really fit into the barrel of the blaster, so I just had to glue it on to the end… Still looks pretty cool… but I think it will look better with a paint job… :)

Here’s a pic of that one: Han Solo Blaster

Anywho, that’s my dorky accomplishment of the weekend… and whether you can appreciate it or not, it made me happy and that’s what counts… :)

I ironed my pants for THIS!

April 26th, 2003

Sigh… So yeah, there were some good things about yesterday I guess… Dinner with Shane was fun and the U-Singers concert rocked my proverbial face off…

Everything else… yeah…. that pretty much sucked…

I went to the concert with someone I have (had? I’m too confused to know anymore) a bit of a (read, huge) crush on… So yeah, with about 10 minutes of being there she manages to move us and the couple of friends we were sitting with to new (much better, I grant you) seats… and takes the only one that gives me no chance of sitting anywhere near her…

yeah, I may be clueless, but even I can read that one…

So that would have been enough to get me down for the evening, but I had to go and mention to her that I was thinking of going to the fyp party later on…

“Why?”
“Well, a bunch of people really want me too…”
“Who?”
“Well… [insert 5-6 names here]“
“Well, I’m going to be mean here, but…”

She then proceeded to spit back at me pretty much every insecurity and doubt I have about actually being a part of something that has, literally, been my saving grace for the past 7 years… in simple, precise, easy to understand, razor sharp, cuttingly painful terms….

Nothing she said was really offbase, nor do I think she said that stuff to hurt me… but frankly it did… It was all I could do to keep my usual, cheery, fasade up until I could drop her off…

Anyway, to make a long story short (TOO LATE), a couple of hours of driving way to fast, thru tears and Afton mountain fog and a little time alone to think, and I think I’m ok again…

I’ve at least vented enough so that the guy inside can keep a lid on the little box where I stuff all my emotions…

Sigh…

Dammit, I hate depressing blogs…

But… but… it’s my stapler.. MY STAPLER…

April 24th, 2003

Dammit… there are few things I truely want in this life… world peace, true love, and a Rio Red, Swingline Model 74740 stapler… I mean, really, is that so much to ask?

I mean, world peace I’ve more of less given up on in the foreseeable future… and true love? Well, I still have high hopes for that (damn 6-foot wide hopeless romantic streak)… but that damn stapler is elusive…

They make them! Contrary to what Staples told me! SEE!

I suppose I could just order one from there, but I really want one by tomorrow night… I just don’t understand why NONE of the local office supply stores carries these… They would sell like those proverbial hotcakes…

Whew, ok, rant complete… back to work… gotta finish the coversheets for those TPS reports…
