Moments…

June 11th, 2003

So a friend of mine told me I should blog some more… So I’m writing, but not for that reason… Frankly, I don’t post stuff here to entertain people… What I write, I write as a means of expressing myself, as a way of sharing a part of myself that all to often remains hidden with the people I care about… If it happens to provide them entertainment, that’s all the better, but, as with any form of affection, it can only be meaningful if it’s freely given…

But that’s not what I wanted to talk about at all….

The other day I was thinking about a particular moment in my life… Like all moments, this one was fleeting… In retrospect it couldn’t have lasted more than a few minutes, but while lost in that moment it was almost as if time stood still… As the memory of this moment swirled through my brain, I realized why this moment sticks out so vividly in my mind… It’s because it was a moment of pure emotion… In this instance, passion. For that brief moment, everything else… fear, doubt, logic… everything faded into the background… If just for an instant, life was reduced to the purest and simplest of components….

As I sat and pondered this, I realized that our lives are shaped by these kinds of moments. It’s the events in our lives that evoke the purest and simplest of emotions.. whether it be love, hatred, joy, sadness, desire, despair, passion, whatever… it’s these moments that define the path of our lives….

To put it in geek terms, these events are the keyframes of our lives… everything else it just interpolation…. :)

So what does all this mean? Who knows… I sure the heck don’t… :) My only advice is to cherish these moments when the come to mind, even the ones that were unpleasant to live through… It’s these events that map the course we’ve taken through this world… It’s these moments of pure emotion that remind us what life is truly about….

Holy Crap!

Now THAT was awsome! Check this out: THIS!

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, my friends Joel, Catherine, Jon, Scott, and I went on a fun filled whitewater rafting trip on the lower New River (ironicly enough, the second oldest river in the world) this weekend and it was A-FRICKIN-MAZING! Oh my goodness! :)

Our guide was a bit, well, talkative let’s say, and we did manage to throw everyone except Catherine and the guide out of the raft at one point, but other than that it was a perfect outing… The weather was beautiful (a little chilly starting out, but it warmed up quickly), the rapids we fast and, well, furious, and just getting to spend an incredible day with some friends I was afriad I had lost contact with was simply wonderful….

And we topped it all off with an excellent meal at Dirty Ernie’s Rib Pit… All in all, and excellent ending, to an excellent day… :)

YAY!
