Ding, Dong, Novell is dead…. a little ahead of schedule…
August 21st, 2003Sigh, it’s been a long couple of days… The good news is that almost all the Dean’s Office data has been migrated to its’ new home… More good news is that this has been done way ahead of my original schedule… The BAD news is that I was forced to migrate all the data yesterday evening (I worked until midnight) and today because a power of a power outage Tuesday evening (which I should have been informed of had someone not placed the notification fax directly into the recycle pile!) managed to damage one of the power supplies that and at least one of the drive in the external RAID array that all the data was stored on…
The short version, for the non-technical, is that the idiot cut power to my server without notifying me and killed my server… sigh…
Ah well, as I said, the upside is that it gave my migration project a hard, swift kick in the butt and now I’m almost done… and it only cost a day’s worth of data…
Sheesh, sorry to just be rambling about work… it’s just so frustrating that ALL THREE FRICKIN’ servers have decided to die on my just days before I was scheduled to begin properly migrating the data off them… I was really hoping I could at least have the chance to do ONE of them the right way… ah well…
Anyway, it’s done, over, fixed, complete (mostly), and once again I’m the Sys Admin version of Scotty from Star Trek, a miracle working in the eyes of the people I support… Which, I suppose, isn’t such a bad thing…
But I’m rambling… time for bed I think… Maybe, one day soon, I’ll actually be able to blog about something OTHER than work… :) Won’t that be nice…
