More Birthday Thanks… and SOOOOOO BORED….

November 26th, 2003

First off, I just want to say a great big thank you, once again, to everyone who has made this a great birthday for me… Whether you gave me a present or a card, treated me to dinner, cuddled with me for warmth while gazing at the stars, called, wrote, sang, baked cake, or just generally wished me well, I appreciate it. Each and every one of you, family and friends, have made me feel truely special… and that’s the best gift of all…

In other new…. I’M SO FRICKIN’ BORED TODAY!!!!

There’s, like, no one here at work today… I think one person has passed by my door and said hi since I’ve been here… No calls, no e-mails… The only thing productive(?) that I’ve done today is to finally start an Amazon.com wish list….

Methinks, if nothing happens in the next half hour or so, I’m just going to go home… :)

Anyway, to everyone out there, have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving! Eat lots of turkey (real or hypothetical), take lots of naps, enjoy the company of your family and friends, take a moment to realize just how lucky you are… then eat more turkey… :)

ooo, and pie… don’t forget about the pie… ;)

Happy Birthday To Me…

November 25th, 2003

Yup, it’s my birthday… Woo-Hoo… :)

Actually, despite the scarcasm most people who know me probably read into that line, it’s been a pretty good birthday thus far…

We actually did most of the celebrating on Saturday. It began with a lovely dinner out with some friends, both old and new, but all incredibly dear to me… That was followed up by cake (slightly scandalous but utterly delicious cake) and a viewing of “The Two Towers” (the extended version, my second viewing in as many days :)) with even more friends… That was then followed by a trip to Waffle House (where I taught Kristina the joys of Crenga(tm)… check out the pic)… and then, the evening concluded with a slightly chilly, but amazingly beautiful stargazing excursion to the parkway… All in all it was a pretty amazing night… thanks again to every who made it a special evening…

Today, my actual birthday, has been a little quieter… probably because most of my friends are heading out of town today for Thanksgiving… but it’s still be pretty nice. I’ve been saranaded twice over the phone (by both my mom and sister), recieved several cards, e-mails, and IMs, and even had two haikus and a Mary Tyler Moore theme parody written in my honor… :)

Anyway, I guess that’s about it for now. I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who’s wished me a happy birthday today… You’ve really made me feel special… :)

To FYP Tech:

November 17th, 2003

8:00 PM – Monday, November 17th: This feels really weird. It’s 8:00. I shouldn’t be here. I should be standing on the steps of the tech table, waiting for a cue from Kellie to kill the house lights… preparing to take my usual seat on the tech table floor to watch the show… To cheer inside every time Kim timed a light cue perfectly or Kristina nailed a spot cue… To marvel at how great the mics sound and how great the set looks… To laugh my ass off when someone gets pegged by camel spit…

But I’m not there… I’m here, sitting on my couch, watching “Monster House”… There doesn’t even exist anymore, except in our hearts and our memories… the stage is down and neatly stacked away, the shed is packed, the U-Haul returned, the well is… is…

CRAP, I knew I forgot something!

.:Will scurries back to the SAB to retrieve his well:.

A few minutes later: Well retrieved from behind the dumpster… and just in time, this blog was starting to get a bit depressing, and that wasn’t my intent…

As everyone who’s been in a “closing-night-tech-circle” with me (or anyone who noticed me crying softly behind the tech table closing night) can attest, I tend to get a little emotional when a show ends… and I think, now that we’ve all been through a show together, each of you can understand why…

Together, each an every one of us has worked to create something incredible… in only a few short days we’ve taken an empty shell of a half-assed building, some scraps of wood, some rented lights, and some begged, borrowed, and stolen sound equipment and turned them into a work of art… And even though that masterpiece is but an amazing memory, the bonds formed through it’s creation can never be broken…

To the newest generation of techies: Each year I find myself more and more impressed with the talent of the incoming tech class… This year is no exception. Each and every one of you is incredible. Your skill, you energy, and your dedication are what fuel this organization. I’m proud to have worked at your side and am excited to see what you will accomplish in the semesters to come…

To the 4th year techies: It has been my honor and priviledge to watch you “grow” and “mature” in tech… It seems like just yesterday you were the new recruits, and now you’re the seasoned vetrans that make this whole organization work… In that time you’ve also become some of my closest and dearest friends… I love you guys…

To every techie inbetween: Don’t think I’m leaving you guys out. :) You are all amazing people and totally-completely-100%-USDA-Choice-Kick-Ass techies. Your talents and dedication impress me beyond words and your friendship gives me the strentgh to make it through… thank you….

To Kim and Kristina: Thank you guys so much for letting me help you with the lights… Kim, you’re certifiable, but I wouldn’t have you any other way.. :) Your spirit, your energy, your excitement were all contagious during the show. I don’t know that I’ve ever had so much fun doing lights. And Kristina… There really just aren’t words to describe how amazing you are… I mean, take away the impecibe spot work and the skill and dedication you showed hanging in there to the wee hours of the morning wiring (there’s nothing like sunrise over Waffle House) and you’ve still got an amazing person that I’m proud to call friend… Thank you both… for everything (especially for not painting Roxy “My Baby” pink :)).

And finally, To Michael and Teresa: You two have done an incredible job this semester. Honestly, this has been one of the best semesters of tech that I’ve seen, and a great deal of the credit for that goes to you guys. I know you’ll say that you really don’t do much, that it’s all the members of FYP tech that make things work… But it’s you guys that brought this crew together… It’s you that inspire them to push the bounds of their creativity… It’s you that keep things running smoothly. I’ve had the pleasure of working pretty closely with you guys this semester and I know the lenghts you’ve gone to for FYP tech, and now much of your heart and soul you’ve poured into this organization… I just believe in giving credit where credit is due… You guys are amazing, and Teresa, I know you’ll do an even MORE amazing job next semester…

Whew, OK, I think I’ve rambled on enough… :) Sorry for being so long winded, but, in all honesty, this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what I’m feeling about this show and about each and every one of you. You’re all amazing and I honestly love each one of you.

Oh, and I finally posted some pics from the show. You can check those out here:

Ok, time to get some much needed sleep… :)

Ahhhh… Tek Week… :)

November 4th, 2003

And so it begins…

Well, not quite yet, but in a few short hours… It’s kinda scary to think about it, but this will be my 15th FYP show…

Holy crap I’m old… :)

It’s weird tho… even though I’ve done this 14 times before, it’s always new… it’s always unique… new people, new challenges… The excitement of seeing everything come together… The exhiliration of creating something amazing out of nothing…

Anyway, I should probably get to sleep… Tech week come bright and early tomorrow…

PS, this will prolly be my last blog for a while, but I’ll hopefully be taking lots of tech week snapshots and putting them up in the “MoBlog”.

You should also check out the FYP Website and check out our progress on the webcam…
