New site and updates and stuff…
June 28th, 2004Well, as you can see there have been a few changes around here. :)
I’ve been wanting to update the look and feel of my site for a while now, and, after reading a notice last week about a number of security problems with my old blogging script, I decided to switch to something a little more tested and robust.
I looked at Moveable Type (probably the most popular blogging package out there), but their website pissed me off and wouldn’t let me download the personal version… so they lost my business. I kept searching and eventually decided to go with WordPress. It seems to do everything I need, and is nice and configurable and stuff… ‘course, this is my first non-test post… so we’ll see how things go…
Anywho, some other quick updates….
Canoing – I just got back from a fairly enjoyable camping/canoing trip this weekend. Some friend and I did a 28 mile streatch of the Shannandoah river from Luray to Bentonville. On the up side we found a great campsite and had a good overall time… on the down the river was pretty crowded with other canoers, rafters, and tubers, which was a little annoying, and the river didn’t have as much whitewater as some of our other trips… All in all it was a lot of fun though…
Car PC – The Car PC project seems to be working out pretty well… we put it to the test this weekend finding our Friday campsite, and the put-in and take-out points for the canoes… The GPS navigation worked great… it just had a little problem with the fact that regular street addressing rules don’t always work in rural areas… :) Also, despite lots and lots of rain recently, there’s no sign of any leaks from the Wi-Fi antenna install (have I blogged about that yet? I’ll have to check), so I think all is good there… Now I just need to work on getting it to boot faster, or hibernate cleanly… one or the other…
Summer in general – This summer, thus far, is turning out really great. Having Kristina in town has a lot to do with that… :) We’re hopefully taking a little trip at the end of July to spend a few days at the beach with her family which should be interesting and a lot of fun… We’ll also be doing something similar with my family in October… which should be equally fun and interesting… :) Rounding out the list of things making the summer fun are the friends who are either still in town or here working for the summer and the weather recently (well, minus the rain and the couple really hot, nasty days… not tooo hot, not to cool… mainly just not as muggy as C’ville is usually)….
Ah well, I think that’s it for now… Now that I have the new site set up I’m going to (hopefully) blog a bit more regularly… we’ll see… :)
