Think Different…

July 20th, 2004

Um… Yeah…

I just bought a Mac…

Yeah… that’s right… you heard me… a MAC…

Surprisingly enough, the apocalypse seems no closer to drawing nigh… no four horsemen beating at my door… no rains of fire and brimstone on my way home… Just, what is sofar proving to be, a nice solid little laptop…

I’ve been toying with the idea of switching for a while… and with every critical update to patch a vulnerability that would “allow someone to execute arbitrary code on your machine”, I started taking the idea more and more seriously… Then, when my current laptop started to fail (second bad harddrive in as many years) I decided the time was right….

After a great deal of thinking and looking at different options, I settled on a nice 14″ iBook… I thought about the 12″ iBooks and PowerBooks for a while, but ultimately I decided I needed the larger screen… The 15″ PowerBooks were nice too, but just a bit too big for my tastes, and also a bit to pricey….

So… last night after work my friend Shane and I made a pilgrimage to the nearest Apple Store (in Richmond) and I made my purchase… All in all, it was a fairly pleasurable experience (well, minus the spending money part)… I also picked up a new iPod, since Apple is currently running a special offer that basically gets you a 15GB iPod for $49, after mail in rebate… Sadly, we were one day early and I missed out on the new fourth generation iPods… Actually, I think I can return this one and trade it up for the new 20GB model… it just required another trip to Short Pump… I’m still debating that one…

Anyway, that’s my story for today… you may now pick your jaws up off the floor and return to your regularly scheduled programming….

(and don’t worry… for the foreseeable future only the laptop will be Mac… I’ll still be running WinXP on my desktop and probably the carPC too… and Linux for my webserver… I figure I’m now just an equal oportunity computer user… :))
