Decisions, decisions…
September 14th, 2008So yeah, I know, I’m way behind on a lot of blogging… I’m way overdue for a virtual tour of my new house and the joys and tribulations of home ownership… I’ve also got posts brewing about some happy and exciting adventures in technical theater down at Live Arts, about the joys of being a new iPhone owner, and maybe a few other things…
…but today I have something else on my mind…
Ya see, a week or so ago, something occurred to me… After being visited on several consecutive evening by school children, hocking their wares to raise money for their schools, I came to a realization….
…I might actually have trick-or-treaters this year! And that means, I have an excuse to actually dress up for Halloween this year…
So, since that moment of realization, I’ve been considering different options for costumes, and I’ve arrived at two clear and obvious favorites:
Dr. Horrible - For those of you not yet familiar with Joss Whedon’s three webisode musical epic about a would-be supervillan and his aspirations for love and/or world domination, get thee to iTunes and get it now… It’s worth every penny of the $4.99 they seem to be charging now…
Pros: Love the character, fairly easy to assemble (gloves, boots, welding goggles, “Howie” style lab coat), doubles as a generic mad scientist for the kiddies.
Cons: So far the only suitable lab coat I’ve found is from a company actually selling Dr. Horrible replicas, at it’s a bit pricey…
Ash (from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness) – If you’re not familiar with Bruce Campbell’s quintessential roll as the gun toting, one-liner quiping, chain-saw handed, demon slaying bad-ass of the Evil Dead trilogy… well, I’m just not sure I can speak to you any more…
Pros: Totally groovy. And, with the exception of the chainsaw hand (which is ESSENTIAL), it wouldn’t be to hard to assemble either… I’d just need to ruin some brown cords and a denim shirt…
Cons: It would require construction of my own prop chainsaw. And, being me, I wouldn’t be satisfied unless it looked and sounded pretty darn real…
So… those are the options I’m considering… Thoughts? ideas? comments? concerns? badgers?

I really think you would make an awesome Ash. And scare the bejebus out of the kids, to boot. Of course, this raises a bigger question: when are you gonna come visit me so you can see Evil Dead: The Musical???

Thanks! I think I am leaning that way (I’m just getting far too many geeky ideas for the saw… like building in a mini-fog machine for the exhaust smoke)…
And that is a very good question… What’s the current deal with US/Canada travel? Do I need a passport yet? I’m working on getting one of those now…
Also, are is the show still running? Their website seems to suggest that is closed on the 6th… :(
… of course, I’d still love to come visit, even without the promise of Candarian demon ass-kicking…
but, OOOO! It looks like there’s a Norfolk, VA production in the works for next year (http://evildeadthemusicalva.com/)... so perhaps you will have to come visit me instead (or in addition)…
